Home Leaving Checklist

Reactions:

I thought it be as easy as packing my bags and leaving but things to do kept on increasing and I decided to prepare this list for reuse. I am preparing this list since over a week now :)
  • Buy lots of naphthalene balls and scatter them everywhere. Room corners, bathrooms, on the furniture, inside cabinets, every dark corner you can thing of. Your home will be dark for a long time to come. Before leaving, empty a bottle of some pest killer fluid.
  • Although most of our life is shifted online, we are far from paperless society. You be surprised with amount of papers you be needing. Passport, tax papers, bank statements, salary slips. Create a file and add at least all the above in that for last two years. I am in awe by the amount of papers I am required to carry.
  • Transfer your pets/plants to suitable owner if you can't carry them.
  • Tell your neighbours about your plan to revisit/frequency etc. Exchange phone numbers. They might need to contact you for anything urgent. *Anything*. If you trust some people enough, leave duplicate house keys with them.
  • Cancel your monthly subscriptions.
  • Think and think over if you have dues in any direction and get them cleared. Specially the ones in which you have to pay someone. Leave money with someone for maintainence and property taxes if that can't be done online.
  • You be needing lots of sheets to cover lots of things.
  • You might be having lots of data in your personal computer which you should either upload/transfer to a laptop/external disk that you be carrying with you.
  • Like your employer give your domestic helps also a prior notice so they are not at loss of income once you are gone.
  • Get rid of all perishable food items.
  • Unplug electrical appliances which are normally kept in off state.
This list is by no means complete and there are umpteen other things which you will be doing when leaving home. Let me know now if I have missed something.
